We want you to be happy with the koi you purchase from us.  More importantly, we want our koi to be happy with their new home!

On our end, we give it our all to raise healthy koi.  When they leave here, they're put in an oxygenated bag (double bagged for the big guys) which is then placed in a cardboard box and closed.  The koi travel more comfortably this way.  They don't need the added stress of being bounced around in a loose bag in a car.

On your end, it's up to you.  You should have all of the test kits mentioned in the water quality section.  And your parameters should be in check BEFORE the addition of any new koi.  We're here to help if you need it.  

Back to acclimation! 

1.  Leave the bag in the box

2. Open the bag (no smoking while you open it --- pure oxygen) 

3. Add about a quart of water from your pond to the bag

4. Tuck the open end of the bag in between the flaps on the top of the box --- keeps them from jumping out

5. Wait 5 minutes

6. Remove a quart of water from the bag and dump it away from the pond

7. Repeat steps 3 through 6 for a total of 45 minutes

8. You've gradually acclimated them from their old environment to their new one --- a nice smooth transition --- not a shock to add further stress

9. Remove the fish from the bag and place them in the pond

If it's a new pond and they're the first fish in it, it may take them a while to feel comfortable in their new surroundings.  If it's a pond with an existing koi population, they should be with the group in no time!
